Hello, I must be going
I can not stay, I came to say I must be going.
I’m glad I came but just the same I must be going.
~ Groucho Marx
August is here, and with it came TONS of work, in all shapes.
My Hebrew website is going under major update+ face lift, I had a paper to write which was really one big excuse to have a good reason to sit and watch Heiner Fruehauf’s lectures on his website, I am about to give my first lecture ever on September 7th in front of the Chinese medicine community in Israel- which means I need to a) stop freaking out! and- b) write my lecture.
Top all that with a 2.7 year old boy who is on 3 weeks vacation, and you have very little time to work, lots to do and one Israeli blogger, who really wished she had more time on her hands.
I”m not complaining, these are not troubles.
All these things are good things (yes, even the fact that my boy has so much time off from kindergarten), but they are limiting the time I can invest on my blogs, including CMNotes.

Promoting Chinese Medicine is very important.
We need more and more people who will explain why this amazing medicine, and we need people to show from their own experience how it simply works.
We’ve been doing this promotion in various ways- building our own websites, writing about Chinese Medicine- what it does, what it’s good for, how different it is from other methods of treatment… and it’s all good and all should go on.
Today I want to show you another way of promoting Chinese Medicine.
Lately I’ve been seeing more and more items on the Internet that we can buy and people can be exposed to the fun part of Chinese Medicine through t-shirts, mugs, mouse pads, baby cloths… and also, we get to have fun!
So let’s go shopping!

A quick note to let you know about the free on-line course with Richard Goodman.
Richard is the author of the book Classical Chinese Medical Texts- Vol. I (volume II is in the making!).
On July 15th 2009, he will begin an on-line course which actually accompanies the book, 15 lessons- one for each chapter. More info, as I copied it from WindPress:
“Beginning July 15th, Richard Goodman will teach a FREE 15 week course for Classical Chinese Medical Texts Vol I. We are doing this because we want people to use the book! The course will be hosted on this website and the material for each week will have it’s own web page so that all of the material is available in one place. Additionally, you will be able to make comments and ask questions directly related to each week’s material. If you are a late arrival or fall behind, the material will remain so that you can follow along at your own pace. There is no need to sign up or register”.

We’ve been thinking about it for a while, that it’s time to refresh our look.
Call us Madonna, that’s just fine by me, but it was time for a change. We’re still not done with all the changes we want to make, but you can now see what we have in mind.
We’re still working on more stuff, and they will be joining the new look slowly but surely. I want to point you to the direction of a number of new and renewed features:
1. Status bar: on the top right side of the website, you will find a new status bar (you can call it my own personal Twitter bar). This will give you an idea of what goes on in my life between posts.

I will start by saying that I am no big expert about SEO.
I’m not a small expert either.
I’m a person who has a lot to do with websites, as this is what I do- run and manage websites- and along the way I learn new things.
Those of us who have a website, should also teach themselves about promoting the website.
If you have someone doing it for you- that’s great, but even then, there are things you can do all on your own. I think it’s important to know how to do at least some of the things by yourself, and some of it can be done completely off-line.
I am here to give 5 tips, 5 of many tips, hoping it will help you grow traffic to your website.

Today I want to take a close look at TCM Directory.
I think it’s important for all of us to be aware of the options for Internet marketing that we have around us (one of many), and sometimes, it’s good to be reminded of obvious things, like the importance of websites like TCM Directory, and the important hard work that Elie Goldschmidt puts into his directory.
A long time ago…
When I was a student, the best directory I found was Acupuncture & TCM Links of Vil’s.
This was like striking gold for me back then, and I spent hours looking through the various links.
The years went by and things changed, and now we can find other directories, one of them is TCM Directory.

One of the most amazing things about the Internet is the ability to have passive income.
These days, passive income can come from Google Adsense (one example of many options that are out there), and affiliate programs.
It seems that when it comes to Chinese Medicine, the affiliate program options are very slim- almost close to none.
There are a few programs out there, sure, but I keep wondering why there are just a few and not many programs.
In this post I will try to understand this issue, hoping to reach an answer and maybe help make a change.
Affiliate programs- huh?
As I e-mail with many practitioners around the globe, I find that many don’t know what an affiliate program is.
For the long and detailed version- click here (recommended).
Basically, when you have a website, you can recommend certain products and refer to a certain store to get more information and buy that product. If a person buys the product from your link- you get a certain percentage from that sale. More people buy through your links equals to making more money.
Amazon is a great example for an affiliate program that helped make an on-line store huge. With thousands of people on their affiliate programs, they are a well-known on-line store, with thousands of “sale agents”, that are all over the world, selling their products- baby products, books, CD’s, DVD’s, MP3′s and more.

You thought I forgot, didn’t you?
Now really, how can I forget about this hefty book, sitting on my desk just waiting for me to read it??
How to needle a child?
We’re on page 80 (for those who are following), and Julian starts talking about practical things- how does one needle a child? What is the right technique?
On Julian’s website you can find a double DVD that explains, among other things, the technique Julian uses in his practice. It can help you master the technique, and understand it better. In the book you can of course find illustrations of the technique to help you start.
The technique is important, especially with young babies and toddles who tend to be on the move. Many of them don’t like to be pinned down and so the practitioner must be quick with finding the acupuncture point and super-quick with needling the point and applying the desired manipulation.
Julian offers many tips on this subject and so ends the first part of the book.

Congratulations America!
You have a new president, Barack Obama. I have to admit, I’m jealous. What charisma! Such promise!
I think this is the first time when a political leader has spread so much joy around the world.
I watched president Obama in Washington today, and I was thinking, that he is a wonderful example of the Wood element.
Hope, dreams and the man with the plan
President Obama has a plan- for the USA and for the rest of the world.
The fact that he has a plan is so Wood element- being the one in charge, knowing what needs to be done and plan the way to do it.
This plan is not designed for war. When we think about the Wood element we sometimes think of the general in the army.
This is not the case.
In this case, the plan is directed for a better world.

I’m bouncing back into action after being sick for a week or so.
As it is the end of 2008, it is only right to look back and see what on earth I’ve been upto here on CMNotes!
Turns out, I have some good stuff:
Dr. Leon Hammer is one name that keeps coming up here, as it did since my second year or so of school.
I was lucky enough to have a number of chats with Dr. Hammer over e-mails, and one of the posts I am most proud of is the interview I got to do with him.
One of his students, Ross Rosen, was kind enough to write our very first guest post here on CMNotes, about Chinese Pulse Diagnosis.
