5 Interesting Links About Chinese Medicine

Posted on December 3, 2008 by

It’s been a while since I last gave a list of interesting links here on CMNotes.
I know, there’s this category called “weekly links“, and you know as well as me, that it hasn’t been updated for a long long time. The only reason is lack of time.
But here I am now, so let’s make the most of it:

Meet my competitors is a post by Burton Kent, over at Acupuncture Clinic Marketing.
Burton lists the blogs that have good advice on how to help us promote our clinic, and to be quite honest, I think we could all use all the help we can get. 2009 seems to be a nice new year, but could be difficult where finanace is concerned, so I would imagine that those of us who have a clinic would like to get more ideas on how to keep our patients close and how to get new ones.

Burton also mentioned the quick reference about acupuncture that Seth Godin made in one of his latest posts.
To those of you who don’t know, Seth Godin is a marketing guru (Seth “marketing” God-in?), and reading his blog is always interesting. Check out what this guy is all about.

Have you visited Heiner Fruehauf’s Associates Forum yet? If not- you really should.
In order to be able to enjoy all that the AF has to offer, you need to subscribe and it costs money, but- from experience- it is worth it. If you are looking for interesting-mind-blowing-one-of-a-kind information about Chinese Medicine, and especially- if you’re not in Portland, you really should consider being a part of the AF. And- you are interested in trying to reduce the cost- contact me. If we have enough people we could try and have a group discount. If you’re interested contact me at yael@chinesemedicinenotes.com

Acupuncture in The Eye is a great post from Chinese Medicine Adventures, who always manages to put a smile on my face and make me miss my sunny days as a young Chinese Medicine student.
On my 4th year we were always looking for the perfect “victim” to needle in the eye, but none of us would ever offer themselves for the ride. hmmm, I wonder why!!

I have started a new project here on CMNotes:
I am reading Julian Scott’s book- Acupuncture in The Treatment of Children. Every 2 weeks I sit and write to you about what I read, including thoughts and how I see the theory in real life, with my boy.
I would love for you to join me!
The latest post is about excess type child and deficiency type child.

I like what Burton had to say about acupuncture. I am a strong advocate for acupuncture, but to claim that Western Medicine is wrong compared to it is like saying that ocean water is better to drink than fresh water. No, I’m not saying that acupuncture is not as effective as western medicinal treatments, but that it’s just a matter of preference. I also went to the Acupuncture in the Eye post from Chinese Medicine Adventures and I have to say: It looks rather intimidating. For someone to put a thin needle in the white of my eye is something that would take a lot of guts for me to muster, but if they’re willing to do it, I’m willing to give it a try!

    Hey,
    Thanks for your comment!
I don’t think there should always be a discussion about CM in relation to WM. Both work well, each has it’s benefits and each has it’s strong points.

The Acupuncture in The Eye post is amazing, and I can tell you that as a practitioner and as a patient, I never used it (been around acupuncture for the past 10 years- almost).
It’s a very specific treatment, you know? :)

    Thanks and take care,
    Yael
