Chinese Medicine Books
Posted on July 18, 2008 by Yael
I guess you know by now that I am a Chinese Medicine books fan.
I now have less time for it, but during my school years, I used to read a lot about Chinese Medicine.
I find these books to be very enjoyable, and also a wonderful way to learn on my own. This is not to say that books are better than practice- not at all- but this is only another way for me to say, that even if you are a practitioner for the past 20 years- don’t stop reading.
It is so important!
Chinese Medicine books are expensive.
But there are ways to find some goodies (and by goodies I mean Chinese Medicine books that their price won’t kill our bank accounts). Yes, I know, it’s rare. I still think that buying a new Chinese Medicine book every now and then is important, and it is for a good cause.
When ordering from on-line book stores, one should consider the fees of shipping, and make sure that if you order from the Internet it doesn’t amount to more than what you can find in a store near you.
Here’s a list of the websites I visit when I decide to buy a book and I’m looking for the best price.
I’m sure there are more sites, and you are welcome to mention them in the comments.
1.Amazon: probably my first stop. I know, it’s not very professional, but the variety is wonderful and they have a lot of discounts and special prices- not all the time, but quite often. You can also find a number of journals you can subscribe to via Amazon. And yes, the fact that they have their affiliate program is a great incentive. When will on-line Chinese Medicine book stores have affiliate programs??
2.Blue Poppy Press: no need for introductions. Make sure you check the prices over the weekends, as they have weekends specials on various items- every weekend. They also have various discounts on shipping and items from time to time, definitely worth a visit.
3. Redwing: a wonderful place to look for books, but they don’t often have discounts, at least I never found one. The fun thing about Redwing is to suddenly receive in the mail (snail mail) the Redwing catalog- so many books to choose from!
4. Paradigm Publications: a good place to look for books, sometimes they have nice surprises with discounts and such.
5. Eastland Press: they don’t have many books, but some books are better to buy from them than other on-line stores. Make sure you check their prices before placing an order, I remember seeing nice discounts there from time to time.
More websites worth mentioning:
Google Books: not a lot of books are available for preview, and most of them are only for limited preview. If the book that you are looking for is available for preview- this is a good place to take a look. For example- the wonderful book Fluids Physiology and Pathology is on limited preview, and you can take a look at it here.
ITM Online: this is a very good website altogether, but this little section has some recommendations for books and resources for studying Chinese Medicine. A great way to get good ideas for books.
JCM Bookshop: they don’t have any discounts, but this is the place to buy articles from the JCM (Journal of Chinese Medicine). Many interesting and important articles can be yours with just a click.
I hope this list helps you find the best price for your new books.
If there’s a website you think I left out and is worth mentioning, leave a comment.
