The month of May 2008 will be remembered as the month where nature had a thing with the human race.
The cyclone in Myanmar was just about 10 days ago, taking thousands of lives on it’s way, and now the terrible earthquake in China, which happened yesterday, thousands are missing or buried or injured or dead.

This is of course not a good thing for China, especially when we remember that the Olympic Games are just 3 months away, and with all the debate regarding the violation of human rights in China and the fact that many had to give up their home for new stadiums- things look pretty gloomy for China right now from my point of view.
Trying to find people under the ruins, trying to find your loved ones after a disaster like this is horrifying.

And Chinese Medicine has an angle in this story too:
Every year a group of students from one of the schools here in Israel are traveling to Chengdu to work in one of the hospitals there.
This year 15 students left for China, and only 13 students- so far- contacted their families after the earthquake. For the time being, 2 Israeli students are missing as they did not contact anyone- not their families and not their group in China.

You want to hear the most annoying thing?
The school from which the students left from took advantage of the disaster and promoted itself with a video and an article about the school.
And between you and me, since I know who stands behind the wheel of PR in that school, that doesn’t surprise me one bit. It just makes me feel sad for people who think they can exploit terrible things like these for their bank account.
And this from a school which claims to teach Chinese Medicine- “the authentic way”- that’s more or less part of their slogan. I thought the authentic way is not using others misery for your own personal gain. At least that’s part of the authentic way… I guess it’s just me.

I hope the 2 students will contact their families soon.
I hope that the delay does not mean that the most terrible thing has happened.
